SpiceBreeze is a monthly spice subscription box that sends a culinary adventure in the form of spice kits (a recipe and all spices you’ll need to create it) from around the world. Choose from two different sized packages; the Duo includes two spice kits that are pre-selected for $5.90 monthly and the Quad which includes 4 spice kits, the two that are included in the Duo for the month and two that you’ll select via email. This is the one that NAT is reviewing. Subscriptions are $11.85 monthly. NAT received this package at no cost for review purposes.

Everything that we received in our May package from Spice Breeze. As always we receive four wonderful recipes from countries like Brazil, California (a state), Seychellois as well as India and all the spices we need to create them. Opening up this package is always a delight as the spices are so bright and beautiful.
So what is all this stuff?
Our box insert. There is always a beautiful image from some exotic locale. This one shows us the Iguaza Falls in Argentina, Brazil. These are roughly related to the spice kits as we did receive a recipe from Brazil for the month!
Our first spice kit is a Brazilian dish called Coxinha. This savory snack is great for parties and each family and store in Brazil has their own particular recipe. We really think these would be great for our next gathering and that the kids would really like them.
These look delicious and we can’t wait to make them. Our spice packet for this treat includes marjoram, oregano, white and black pepper, nutmeg, basil, chili, parsley and bay leaves.
Next up is a Seychellois spice kit. Our dish is a Creole one from the smallest African country and can be created with three side dishes – a fruit salad, rice and Ladob.. which is sweet potatoes cooked in coconut milk.
Our two packets for this recipe include first a blend of turmeric, cinnamon, coriander, onion, chili, cumin, garlic, curry leaves, fenugreek, ginger, yellow mustard, cardamom and black pepper. Our second packet includes just nutmeg and cinnamon.
Our Ahi Tuna Salad recipe is from the far off land of California and boasts a beautifully healthy assortment of foods that is quick to prepare. You can swap the tuna out for salmon or chicken breast based on what you have available to you locally.
Our two spice packets for this recipe include first a blend of smoked paprika, black pepper, white pepper and oregano. Our second packet includes spicy chipotle pepper that you’ll use to taste. We love that SpiceBreeze gives you variations for each of the recipes that they include and that they have additional recipes to make with your spices online!
Our final recipe for the month is Dal Salad with Raita an Indian dish that includes Ayurvedic spices. This is healthy and includes Indian Gooseberry (amla berry powder) that grows on a sacred tree and contains vitamin c and purportedly increases lifespan.
Our spice packets for this blend include fennel, amla berries, turmeric, cinnamon, cumin, ginger, brown mustard, black pepper, asafoetida, coriander and fenugreek. Our second packet creates our Greek Yogurt based sauce and includes mint, cumin, ajowan, asafoetida and chili. We decided to create this recipe for the month.
Okay so now what?
Now we get to cooking!
This recipe originally called for lentils but we decided to swap that our for Quinoa since that’s what we had on hand. As we cooked our quinoa we prepped by chopping our onion
As well as our carrot. The last 5 minutes of cooking time we add both the carrots and the onions to the pot.
While that’s going on we mix together in a salad bowl our lemon juice, a teaspoon of the Dal spices and a tablespoon of oil. Then you’ll mix this together really well.
Once your quinoa is done remove the lid from the pot and allow it to rest.
Now you’ll add your quartered tomatoes, cubed cucumbers and sliced green onion to the salad bowl.
Mix that together really well. This is gearing up to be a beautiful dish!
Now you’ll add in your quinoa, onion mixture and mix it up really well.
This looks and smells amazing and there is so much!
Next and final step in this dish is preparing our Mint Raita. We love yogurt dressings and dips which is part of the reason that we decided to make this dish for the blog. Add one cup of yogurt and the whole packet of Dal spices 2 as well as salt.
Mix together and serve with your salad. Additionally you can use this as a dip for vegetables as well.
Our completed dish for this month. We served this for dinner with chicken thighs and we had enough for leftovers. The kids loved it and so did the husband which is always a win.
We love how beautiful this looks and enjoyed creating this as it was pretty simple and took less than 30 minutes, making it perfect for a weeknight meal or for lunch meal preps! The addition of many raw vegetables means that you’ll benefit from all of their nutrients (as cooking can sometimes diminish them). This is a huge reason we love salads so much.
So in summary
Presentation: One of our favorite things about this subscription is opening it up and seeing the spice splayed out before me. We think it’s beautiful and arrives to us perfectly.
Quality: SpiceBreeze is committed to all natural and organic spices which says a lot about them! Their spice kits are also free of MSG, preservatives, artificial colors, flavors and BPA.
Curation: We received kits from four different countries this month. We love that they range in skill so that we have recipes for busy weeknights and also for weekend meals! This is our favorite spice subscription and we loved the variety this month!
