Our box inserts. There is not a contents list – you’ll have to sign on to Misfits site for that and at this time certain areas are able to customize their packages (I am since I’m close to Philadelphia). I did receive a recipe in this package but this does seem a bit behind our cooking level to be honest.
First up in my box for this week are two butternut squash. These are great roasted or in soups! I love them and I think Misfits does too because they add that all important weight to the box!
I also chose to receive five russet potatoes. I chose these because russet potatoes can be cooked with the skins on and I am LAZY! Can’t wait to use them!
The next item in my box is a bunch of beets. I love these for several reasons; the first is that they last a long time and the second is that they are great a multitude of ways. You can roast them or boil them (and then glaze them the way my grandmother did). No matter how you choose though beets are excellent!
The next item in our box are these two acorn squash. These are perfect halved and roasted and then covered in maple syrup and butter. These are the absolute excellent fall squash staple.
So first for our fruit are these four grapefruits. These were small enough that I would have thought them orange if I hadn’t chosen them myself. I love to have these for breakfast – there were four in my package.
The next item in my box for this month are two bunches of Lacinato Kale. We ALWAYS use this in a salad. It really goes the longest way that way, All you have to create it is rough chop your kale then chop a shallot or onion and dress with lemon juice, oil and salt. It’s is the simplest and most delicious salad ever.
Next in our box for fruit we have five D’anjou Pears. My husband loves these so I always choose them when they are available. He is currently awaiting them to ripen.
Another item I choose specifically for my husband are jalapenos. This box include two bags of three jalapeno peppers. I don’t know just how he’s going to use these (probably in omelets ((yes as usual)). It’s important to note that each product in these boxes is grown organically!
The next item are these two bags of brussel sprouts. Sprouts are a staple in our home and usually we either roast them in the oven wrapped in bacon or grill them in foil packets with a bit of garlic. Either way these are delicious and quite good for you!
The next item I chose for my box are these two eggplant. I am not sure exactly how I’ll use these yet but I am sure that I’ll love it!
The next item in our box are these three bell peppers. There are two red peppers and one green. Unfortunately one of the red peppers had a bit of rot… we are really resourceful though and cut around to salvage what we could so that nothing went to waste. Bell peppers are one of those vegetables that are so diverse – you can create so many dishes with these, which we certainly will ( we already used one to make omelets yesterday)!
Second to last in our box for this month are these three cucumbers! I use these either in a simple salad of white wine vinegar, garlic and sumac or in addition to a yogurt dressing and with some beef. I love them and so do the kids (who we also serve them to as a snack, simply sliced up).
The final item in my box for the month are these eleven apples. I received a mix of gala apples as well as red delicious. All in great condition and great for school lunches as well as snacking and on apple pancakes!
So in summary
Presentation: Everything arrived to me in great condition, despite this boxes ugly description!
Quality: The fact that each of the items included in this box is organic is so great and I really feel like everything is in really great shape and tastes delicious
Curation: UM… I customized this box for me and my family so I can get on board with the curation of it… YES!
