Subscription Box Review
Our first glimpse inside the Misfits Market package for this week. All the packaging materials used in the Misfits Market boxes is biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
So what is all this stuff?
In lieu of a box insert, each week Misfits Market posts on their website all the vegetables that will be available in their packages that week. You’ll be able to figure out from there what was in your box, each box will have an assortment from it but not ALL of it. Make sense? I have read that Madness boxes have a better assortment than the Mischief boxes as well. I noticed also in Madness Boxes that you’ll receive doubles which is great, if you have a larger family like ours you want to be able to serve portions that are large enough that all can enjoy! I would much rather the doubles than a small portion and larger variety.
First up in our box are two pints of cherry tomatoes. Our kids love to snack on these and they’re also great in salads. Definitely a great inclusion in this box.
Next in our box are two Crespo Mangoes. These are so delicious and a beautiful treat for the summertime. These are a little under ripe but they should soften up in the next couple days.
Then there are two very large zucchinis included as well. One was broken but that’s okay. We really love to wrap these in aluminum foil with a little bit of garlic, salt and pepper and grill them! They are delicious that way!
Leeks are a new one in this box! My husband made a potato leek mash that was to die for. We also save the upper ends and use them in omelets… nothing goes to waste in this house!
These three oranges won’t last long in our house! These are a great snack or lunch addition for the kids and are bright and flavorful.
My husband was really happy to receive these four jalapeno peppers. He’ll use these with tacos on Taco Tuesday or cut them up and use them in omelets (if you can’t tell we’ve really been into omelets lately).
Next up are these two really large heads of lettuce. We used one for a salad (and we have the inlaws in town) and we had plenty of leftovers! I love salads with lunch and this lettuce is really nice and crisp!
You never really can have too much garlic can you? We received four bulbs in this package. I’ve noticed that the organic garlic that’s included in the Misfits Market package goes a bit quicker than the kind you buy in the store, so that’s something you might want to keep in mind.
My son Oliver LOVES broccoli so getting these two crowns is awesome. Not sure really if I’ll be serving these raw with some sort of dip or sauteing them or steaming them. Either way though, the kids will love it and so will I!
Bell Peppers are probably one of the most versatile vegetables you can buy. We received four green bell peppers in this package which will be used in one of a couple ways – omelets, salads, stir fries or just raw as a snack for Vivienne (who LOVES them)!
We received four limes which we’ll most likely be using in our pico de gallo for Taco Tuesday. We also substitute limes for lemons sometimes in recipes (and most times you wouldn’t even know the difference). We also sub lime juice for lemon in our homemade salad dressing.
Okay, myself I’m not a big celery fan. In fact it’s one of the only vegetables that I’m not a fan of. Having said that I know Penelope really likes celery and it’s great in soups and salads so we’ll definitely get use our of these two bunches.
White onions are another very versatile vegetable. Fry them, use them in salads, use them in omelets, use them as garnish or really add a bit of pop to a sandwich! The choice is yours. We received four in our box from Misfits Market for this week.
The final item in our box from Misfits Market for the week are these three plums. This is another inclusion that we’ve never received in this box before which is great because I really love having a variety of colors and flavors in my kitchen! Plums are delicious and to be quite honest the kids have eaten these already. I have no idea why these were considered misfits… they were ripe and delicious.
So in summary
Presentation: Everything is packaged with the environment in mind and arrived to us cold and fresh in our package from Misfits Market this week.
Quality: I know this is supposed to be “ugly produce” but honestly I feel like it couldn’t be further from that! Each of these veggies and fruits is high quality and organic and my whole family loves it.
Curation: This assortment was awesome! We received two products that we never have before and so many others that we know we’ll use!
