Subscription Box Review
The first item in our box for the week are these two heads of lettuce. We love having salads with both lunch and dinner and this is definitely enough for two meals worth! I really don’t know what made this a “misfit” because it looks just fine to me!
So … I think these are Opal apples again but I don’t remember selecting them. I do however know these are so delicious! They have just the right amount of crunch with a really lovely flavor.
There was also one mini eggplant included in my package for the week. I don’t choose eggplant very often because it’s one vegetable I feel the least comfortable cooking but I am thinking I want to use this with a red sauce for one of my lunches this week. Maybe these are considered misfits because they’re a bit smaller than standard eggplants, it otherwise seemed fine.
In my Misfits Market Box for this week I also receive six oranges. My family has been huge on oranges lately so these will be great for a great addition to breakfast or for packed lunches or even just as a sweet snack. Some of these has pointed tips … which is the only reason that I could come up with for why they would be considered misfits
Yummy! I also received two bags of green beans in my Misfits Market Box for this week. These are so delicious sauteed with some garlic or now that the weather is getting a bit warmer made in foil packets on the grill! The best part is that my entire family loves them!
I also chose sweet potatoes in my Misfits Market Box this week. There were two rather large ones included. I tend to not pick these so often as my husband isn’t a huge fan of them and he’s definitely the biggest potato eater in our home.
Next up in our food subscription box for this week are two bunches of green collards. I select these a lot because I love collards. We have one very solid recipe for these that we always do. We create a broth with stock, brown sugar, vinegar and bacon and cook the collards in that – low and slow and they are fantastic!
I don’t remember selecting fennel as I am not a big fan of it but it’s cool. We will probably use this as an addition to either a soup or a salad. To be honest I’m not sure anyone in my family is big on fennel but honestly we waste nothing and we will definitely use this up!
Now here is something that I remember selecting! This week I received three leeks in my Misfits Market Box. I am so glad that these are becoming a more regular option in my boxes. Typically we use these in soups or even in our weekend omelets!
Everytime they are available I select pears in my Misfits Market Box. This week I received two D’anjou Pears. My husband loves these and often times he’ll take them to work with him as a midday snack! These are really large pears and in really great shape, sometimes the pears seem to be close to expiration but these are in excellent shape!
Something I’ve been enjoying lately for my breakfast are grapefruits and no I do NOT add sugar! I selected them in my box this week from Misfits Market and received two. These aren’t your traditional really big grapefruits – they’re a little smaller which is why maybe they were considered “misfits”.
There were a few potato varieties available in our Misfits Market Box for the week but when I’m not sure I always select a russet as they don’t have to be peeled and quite frankly I’m a little lazy! There were four of these included, they are pretty small. We’ll most likely use these in mashed potatoes.
Second to last in my box for this week are five of my very favorite types of onions – red! These are fantastic in anything particularly when they are fresh. Great on sandwiches, in salads, garnish and toppings to your meals. I can never really understand why the onions in my Misfits Market Box are there because they are always fresh and normal sized and they don’t even look weird. But that’s Okay – I think I’m okay with that!
So in summary
Presentation: Everything in my Misfits Market Box is really packaged well and there’s an effort to be sustainable and earth friendly which I can really get on board with.
Quality: Considering the items in my boxes are organic I would say the quality is excellent. And the “misfits” label shouldn’t scare you there was nothing in my box that was inedible at all, whatsoever.
Curation: I’m aware that not everyone gets to select the items in their boxes – but since I do get to select mind I’ll say the assortment is excellent. Having said that there was a time where I didn’t get to customize my box and even then I really enjoyed what I received!
