Lillypost Children’s Books July “Picture Book” Box Review:
Inside your first Lillypost box you will receive the ‘Welcome to Lillypost’ card, welcoming you to the family and outlining how the books are chosen and emphasizing the importance of reading to children from an early age.
On the reverse side of the card you are introduced to Finnley the Fox, your new welcome gift to enjoy and snuggle with while reading books together.
One of my favorite things about Lillypost is that for every box purchased, they will donate 1 book to a child in need through literacy charities all over North America.
1 box purchased = 1 book donated by Lillypost
Each month there is a colouring contest for Lillypost subscribers. The theme for July is ‘Camping’. You are to use the Lillypost box and draw, colour, or paint a themed picture of Finnley exploring nature while camping in the wilderness. The winner each month will receive a mystery prize box full of books, activities and special goodies.
Finnley the Fox
Your very own stuffed animal friend, Finnley, is a welcome gift included with your first box! Finnley loves to listen to all the stories and adventures together with you every time you open a book!
Eee-Moo! by Annika Dunklee & Brian Won – retails for $23.99
This is a heartwarming story about friendship and the love of family. It is a beautifully illustrated story about a platypus who was told he was an emu. He traveled far around the world, with lots of help from friends along the way, to find his emu family, only to discover he was a platypus.
Lizzy McTizzy and the Busy Dizzy Day by Sarah Weeks & illustrated by Lee Wildish – retails for $21.99
A silly rhyming story about a girl who looks everywhere to find her missing shoe before going to a birthday party. Only to discover that she doesn’t need matching shoes to be happy and have fun, all she needs is to be herself!
Grumpy Monkey by Suzanne Lang & illustrated by Max Lang – retails for $23.99
A feelings book all about a grumpy monkey who says he’s not grumpy, despite all his friends telling him repeatedly that he looks grumpy. His friends don’t understand how he could be grumpy on such a beautiful day. Eventually, he has a meltdown and realizes that for now it is okay to feel grumpy and soon it will pass and he will feel less grumpy.
Verdict: My kids and I really enjoyed the excitement of opening this month’s Lillypost. My kids are both avid readers, from a young age, so we have learned what makes a great book in their eyes and what types of books perks their interests. My youngest daughter is seven years old, so she is probably at the peek age for reading these books. When she finds a book at her level she will read it over and over again.
The favorite books among our family are Grumpy Monkey and Eee-Moo! Eee-Moo! has beautiful pictures and is so sweet. How can you not fall in love with a story about a platypus travelling the world?! Where as, Grumpy Monkey is a great book for kids to help deal with emotions and understand that it’s okay not to be happy all the time. Each of the books this month are completely different from each other, yet they each have a great lesson.
The value in our Lillypost picture books box was worth the price of a Lillypost subscription! Each of the books was a hardcover priced individually over $20 each. The special welcome gift, Finnley the Fox, is also a huge hit with my kids! I know he will get to enjoy many stories in the coming years!
