Jerky Snob “1 Pound” Box Review:
All introductory packages come with the welcome card seen here.
You will find information about when your box will ship, how to contact Jerky Snob and how to score deals and special offers by signing up for the newsletter.
You also get a Jerky Snob sticker with every introductory box.
Jerky Snob has an awesome logo so I was thrilled that I got this sticker! How can you not love the top hat, monocle, and moustache?!
Each Jerky Snob box comes with an information card outlining the featured artisans for that box and describing a little about each business. This box contained the following artisans:
Ayoba
Spicy Biltong (retail value $7.99 USD) – This jerky starts as a moist jerky, almost steak-like, and then adds a punch of heat. I love spicy food and this jerky doesn’t go too far and will be enjoyable by many.
Traditional Biltong (retail value $7.99 USD) – A traditional flavor to this jerky. The air-dry technique definitely gives the jerky a much more moist texture. However, I would have preferred a little more flavor and smoke to the traditional recipe.
All in all, this company makes a great jerky that is sugar-free and perfect for those on a Paleo or keto diet. The cuts of beef used are grass-fed and definitely higher end. I also like how this company gives back to local charities. Resealable bags are also a big plus!
Hero Jerky
Beef Juggernaut Jalapeno Lime (retail value $6.50 USD) – WOW! The moment you open this bag you know it’s going to be good. Just the right mix of jalapeno, smoke, and savory spices. My favorite!
Beef Tactical Teriyaki (retail value $6.50 USD) – A great sweet jerky for the teriyaki lover. Both of these jerkies were a great texture, moist and delicious, and come in resealable bags.
Helping veterans while eating jerky, it’s a win-win! I really like how this company uses no preservatives, is gluten-free, no added msg, and no added nitrites. Again, I really like companies with a cause, and Hero Jerky supports veterans at the Fischer House Foundation.
Werner Gourmet Meat Snacks
Salt & Pepper Zero Sugar, Grass-fed Beef Jerky (retail value $6.98 USD) – Love this salt and pepper jerky! Good thing I couldn’t stop eating it once I opened the bag because these bags are not resealable. The flavor profile was rich and strong (the way I like jerky), but the meat was a little dry at times.
Original Zero Sugar, Grass-fed Beef Jerky (retail value $6.98 USD) – Similar in flavor to the salt and pepper, I found this jerky to be very delicious.
Werner makes a great jerky that is sugar-free and a great option for those on a Paleo or keto diet. The cuts of beef used are grass-fed and their ingredients contain no gluten, no nitrites. The bag indicates it is best eaten within 3 days of opening, which I would agree with, as the bags are not resealable and the jerky dries out fast. Of course, with great jerky like this, eating a bag in 3 days is never an issue.
Mission Meats
Tasty Original 100% Grass-Fed Beef Jerky (retail value $7.33 USD) – A standard jerky taste and a great snack. The jerky was flavorful and not overly dry. Resealable bags helped keep the moisture longer.
Carne Asada Free Range Turkey Jerky (retail value $7.33 USD) – Definitely something new to me. The turkey taste was not super strong, and the flavor was very unique.
I really like how this company uses grass-fed beef and free-range turkey meat. Even more, I like that this company donates 10% of its profits to fight deforestation in Haiti, help homeless mothers and children in Minnesota, and help entrepreneurs in Africa! Wow, is there anything this company doesn’t do?!
Total retail value = $58.92 USD
Verdict: Yes, I’m eating jerky right now as I type this! I love jerky and consider myself somewhat of a jerky snob, so this box was perfect. I really liked how Jerky Snob made great attempts to seek out new jerky artisans that produce small-batch products – and avoided the mainstream jerky giants. The companies featured in this box were all family-run operations or companies with a great social conscience. I love to taste other people’s spin-on jerky and experience how the culture and backgrounds of the artisans influence the flavors. Never would I have known about any of these jerky companies on my own, so I appreciate the work that Jerky Snob puts into curating this box. The combined value of the product is greater than the box, so beyond the curation, there is a cost savings of buying your jerky through this subscription box. The whole family, including the kids, love jerky! Now we can feel good giving it to them as a snack, that is not only delicious but nutritious and healthy too! Jerky Snob is a great box for the jerky lover!
