Subscription Box Review
So this is not how we imagined our Ipsy would arrive. Firstly it’s not the typical box (we’re guessing that was destroyed) and the label was almost impossible to read. The packages to a couple of the items was in bad shape too. However, that’s a problem on USPS end and not so much Ipsy’s.
Everything that we received in our July Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. Despite the initial thoughts on the outer package the contents killed it! This month’s theme is, “Dive In” and we’ve found that those have no correlation to the products that we actually receive.
So what is all this stuff?
Pixi by Petra Glow Mist
$15
First up is a full sized 2.7 ounce bottle of Pixi by Petra Glow Mist. We’ll be honest – we have tried tons of beauty brands over the years but only a handful of Pixi products. By the way who is Petra anyway? Just curious. This can be applied before your makeup or after and you can also respray throughout the day to freshen up your look a bit.
We’re really excited for this product, particularly that you can see the emollient properties in it – which means we’ll get a dewy finish when we use this to set our face. We love anything that adds hydration and we don’t think we get enough setting sprays in our beauty subscription boxes! It also contains 13 essential oils, aloe vera and fruit extracts!
Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Cheek & Lip Stain
$30
Okay, so right off the bat you can see that this box was sort of squished however, the product inside remained in tact. This is a full sized 0.33 ounce bottle and the packaging is really pretty. We have a product similar to this and think its kind of childish so our initial reaction to this was less than desirable. Then we tried it.
The first thing we noticed is the gorgeous natural rose scent. Okay, you got us there but our concern was how it lays down and looks when it dries. We know these stains to be really patchy and inconsistent. But as you can see from this swatch this really does look lovely although it takes about a minute to dry down. What a pretty wash of color and we can honestly say the word “stain” is appropriate because this stuff lasts!
Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara in Brynn
$24
Next up is probably the only product in the box we don’t need / want. This mascara is yes, yet another black mascara that will collect dust until we open it up. This mascara claims to be volumizing and lengthening and has a unique comb shaped wand to help apply more product to lashes. This also contains a Orchid Stem Cell Complex that helps lashes grow. We’ve never tried anything from Thrive Causemetics and do think the packaging is really nice.
Touch in Sol Pretty Filter Waterful Glow Cream
$38
Next is our Waterful Glow Cream – a gel based moisturizer (we’ll be putting this in an upcoming giveaway because gel moisturizers don’t provide enough moisture for our skin) from K beauty brand Touch in Sol. The packaging is gorgeous – it’s all purple! While the box is a little dented it’s still in great shape. This is a full sized 1.76 ounce jar. This cream is lightweight and uses Hyaluronic Acid as well as Hydrolyzed Collagen to firm and plump the skin. This moisturizer is meant to be a final step in your skincare routine and is great for all skin types including sensitive!
Huda Beauty 3D Highlighter Palette in Pink Sands
$45
Finally, we have our absolute favorite item that was included in this box. This highlighting palette from Huda Beauty. There was also an eye palette from Huda included in some July Ipsy Glam Bag Plus packages (this is the one we wanted).
When you open this up you see that you have 1 cream and 3 pearlescent highlight pressed powders. Capri is our cream and they suggest using this as a base on the high points of your face. The Santorini shade is then suggested for the area from your cheeks to your temples. Then (and this is where we started raising our eyebrows) we are asked to use Azores to contour our cheekbones. Finally we apply Ibiza on the apples of our cheeks.
Here they are swatched. We won’t be able to use Azores as a contour but that does not mean it won’t be a gorgeous highlight! These are all blinding and beautiful and are the perfect colors for bright summer days!
So in summary
Presentation: Sigh we wish we had something nicer to say here but our box was not in good shape but we do like that the products were still usable and nothing was opened or handled!
Quality: We feel like Ipsy is killing it! They are not only bringing fantastic quality brands but they are also bringing really amazing products that we will absolutely use! This month is one of the best ones that we’ve received yet and is such a step up from the original Ipsy Bags!
Curation: This assortment was really well rounded and yes, a black mascara isn’t at the top of our want list but we still feel like this box was amazing! What a great month from Ipsy!
Box Economy: For the price of this box ($25) we received $152 in products which is an amazing deal! That’s six times the cost of this box!
