Using a magic wand-shaped card, write your party details inside. Put the card in an envelope that looks like a magic wand.
Tell each guest to put a ribbon on their jumper or dress so that it looks like their jumper or dress is slipping through a hole and appearing at the party. Guarding the magic wand will be a task for the guest of honor.
Use themed decorations and party favors to design a Harry Potter party.
Create the party area. By using the magic wand shape on your front door, you can create a ” vertex” room for your party. You may want to use a wand-shaped potted plant such as a Poinsettia in part of the “Owner’s area.” Arrange a few chairs along the ramp and create a path for guests to walk around and take pictures in.
Have a door with an unlocked window sitting in your front yard, and hang a sheet and flower curtains in the front door, along with clear plastic “muggle” windows to create additional visual impact. Fill white, Hogwarts-shaped paper lunch bags with candy, and tie red-colored ribbon, tissue paper, and gold satin ribbon or streamers through the bags, creating a “room” for the party.
Decorations can include a dress-up area with pretend metals and stones. Set up a table with a tablecloth, slip-on gold, or silver filigree doilies, and sew on the table cloth. Place a large cardboard cutout of a wizard and his wand on the table. Ten or fifteen tiny ceiling lights may be string along a light pole, and decorations may be created to reduce the visibility of the ceiling lights. Hang red, LEGO, or Professor Sprout figurines of the two members of the Croriel family. Have the Prowler stand in the doorway of the “k biases’ area of ” Town” as if he were the wizard’s sugar maker. Fill large red vases with water and floating candles that may be placed on the tables and near the exit of the “party site.”
Create the menu for the party. Make a Harry Potter buffet. Have all of the food fit into the theme: red, large candles, witch’s hats, and silver. Prepare milk and sugar beverages in large goblets. Use the colors of the wizard’s wand in serving hot and cold beverages. Have turnips, carrots, and beets. Use clear glassware for the soup cans. Fill vases with fruit and cookies such as chocolate chip, gingerbread, and oreo carton cookies. Cut Jolley figurines of the professors.
Set up a magic show. Here are a few suggestions to introduce magic to the party. Have a card catalog raise your hand in front of the group to select the children to read the card aloud. Freeze as the children enter the room. Let each child capture the Moment of the Present. The children must have the last pan of soap and the oven timer is set to “Gooey land,” so the 30 to 45-second time limit will be fun. Secure the “pans” of soap and set it aside to cool. Then mix up purple, gold, and silver confetti. Securing and stapling the confetti together creates a rippling effect. Each child “pans” his or her confetti (a plastic bag works well for this fun part of the show), and as a group, attempt to “dunk” their boxes into the confetti. These boxes need to be in varying degrees of “sloppy” to get the best results. Budget permitting, you may also use playing cards or other noisemakers to create “Magic!”
An added benefit to the Harry Potter theme is that your “party bags!” will be filled with lots of candy, the perfect party favor for a Harry Potter party! Party favors are particularly much appreciated by the young and weaned little kids. When out one of the greatest benefits of using the Harry Potter theme is that your birthday boy or girl will be the envy of their next birthday party!
