Here’s the Box Breakdown
Our first glimpse inside the March Box
Everything that we received in our March “Healing Hands” themed box. This box focuses on veterinary medicine.
So what is all this stuff?
Our box inserts. One is our activity book that outlines all of this month’s experiments including the 20 micro-experiments that dig deeper into our monthly experiments.
Our activity booklet. There’s also a scientist in the field as well as further reading and watching.
We received 2 sheets (a total of 6) shrinkies of different species of endangered animals. These will be used in our keychain nature project
This sheet can be used to assess your own pet’s health and can be used with the first aid kit that we received for this month
This packet included everything we’d need to show how sugar affects yeast. There are 4 balloons, yeast, sugar and 2 test tubes. And in case you didn’t know … dogs get yeast infections in their ears.
This month’s activity guide included a healthy recipe for dog treats… use this bone to create your own fun shaped snacks!
Each Club SciKidz Box comes with a piece of candy. This animal themed box included a sugar coated gummy gecko from efrutti!
This keychain will be used in our shrinky activity.
We didn’t use these marbles for anything in the activity workbook but the kids sure did have fun playing with them!
This pack included everything we would need to create our own heart valve. There’s 2 straws, a wide mouth jar and 3 balloons
Keep your pet safe with this animal first aid kit. Included are a spray bottle, vet wraps, cotton balls, alcohol swabs and additionally you can use the stethoscope that we received last month!
Okay so now what?
We first did the ear infection experiment
We mixed together warm water, sugar and yeast to see how the two reacted together
We pour that solution into a test tube and place it in a large glass. The yeast loves to “eat” the sugar and as a by-product releases Carbon Dioxide filling the balloon. This was really cool!
We moved onto the heart valve next.
We cut one of the balloons at the neck (saving the neck) and fit the balloon over the jar of water
We then poke two small holes and insert our straws in them
We then place the remaining piece of balloon over the straw’s end and tape it to secure
If you press down on the center of the balloon the “valve” will pump. This was a another really interesting experiment.
Our final activity was the shrinkies project. We preheated our oven and colored in our animals.
We then cut them out and put them on our baking sheet
We left them in the oven 1 minute and this was the result! How cute!
So in summary
We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation, and presentation. The Club SciKidz Box is a fun way to get your children interested in science. We love how in depth this box goes and think the amount of active time you get out of this box is awesome! The presentation is great, everything arrives perfectly. The quality is awesome – everything is organized in packets to reduced confusion. And curation is fantastic. This box is perfect for kids that are really interested in animals but we also think the chemical reactions in this one were lots of fun!
