Subscription Box Unboxing
Subscription Box Review
Our first glimpse inside the June Boxy Luxe. We were a little concerned to be honest…
When our package arrived it had clearly been sliced open already. It’s sad that USPS has these sorts of problems (most likely in their sorting facilities). TLDR: It appears that everything was untouched in my box which is good.
Everything that we received in our, “Getaway” themed Boxy Luxe. There are a total of 9 items in this box with a combined value of $322 for just $45!
So what is all this stuff?
Our box insert. This lists each of the items that we received along with their retail values.
Living Proof Full Dry Volume Blast
$29
The first item in our Boxy Luxe for June is this full sized aerosol finishing spray from Living Proof. We have a huge soft spot for this brand because it was one of the first samples we ever received back when we subscribed to Birchbox. The packaging is really minimal but pretty – however, we’ll probably pass this on as we don’t need any volume in our hair! This looks like a dry shampoo but it isn’t.
PYT Mini Turbo on the Go Dryer
$85
Okay, so while this is a cute little dryer… $85?! We’d never pay this much for something like this no matter how cute the color is. This is the second item that we’ve received from PYT, we rarely (like once a year) blow dry our hair so we’ll probably be putting this in an upcoming giveaway!
Skin&Co Truffle Therapy Radiant Dew Mist
$35
This mist is formulated to soothe, protect and illuminate the skin. Best part is that it can be used as a setting spray (we firmly believe you can never have too many of those). Having said that… it has a peppermint smell (that’s one of the botanical additives) which we honestly aren’t too fond of. Hopefully the smell doesn’t linger.
Farmacy Honeymoon Glow AHA Resurfacing Serum
$58
We love that Farmacy products are made with all natural, botanical ingredients. This Honeymoon Glow is a lactic acid exfoliator which we’re hoping won’t anger our skin too much. This is an if-y product for people with sensitive, dry or rosacea prone skin. However, these serums do, do wonders by tightening pores, diminishing lines and adding a soft finish to the skin.
Dr. Brandt Clean Biotic PH Balanced Yogurt Cleanser with Chlorophyll
$35
Next we have the first Boxy Luxe spoiler for the June Box. This yogurt cleanser from Dr. Brandt uses a prebiotic to remove dirt, grime and excess makeup without stripping the skin. In the past we’ve had great results from products from Dr. Brandt so we are excited to give this cleanser a try.
Touch in Sol No Poreblem Prime Essence
$23
Probably the item that we are least excited about in this box is this prime essence from Touch in Sol. We received their No Poreblem primer a few months ago and we feel like it really breaks us out. This is a bit different but we are going to watch carefully while we use it. We do love the little ampule type applicator – the packaging is super pretty!
$25
Then we have the largest mascara we’ve probably ever seen. Why is it so big you ask? Because it has a built in lash curler .. which is sort of cool if we actually used a lash curler.
We typically don’t open mascaras that we receive in our beauty boxes but we had to see this wand and… it’s normal sized which is kind of a relief.
The curler is a nifty little contraption. You flip the back down and you’re able to press the curler. The rubber looks like this will be comfortable!
Dominique Cosmetics Lemonade Lipgloss
$17
Second to last we have this lipgloss from Dominique Cosmetics in Peach. We love the packaging but we’ll be honest and say we are kind of bummed this doesn’t actually smell like lemonade! It smells a lot like vanilla or cupcakes or something.
This gloss adds lots of shine and a hint of color. It’s definitely very pretty and we are happy to see Christine Dominique is doing so well!
Tarte Tarteist Pro Glow Cheek Palette V3
$45
We are so happy that we received the palette that we wanted! This cheek palette from Tarte contains the works! Go from contour to blush to highlight all in one palette. The packaging is gorgeous and durable and the pans are generous (about 1 gram per pan).
Each product has 2 options – the blushes are nice (not too pigmented if you know what we mean). The highlights are stunning and the bronzer and contour seemed red at first but show up quite nicely on our skin.
Here are each of the shades swatched. We really like this palette and look forward to using it.
So in summary
Presentation: Everything arrived well but we are still a little perturbed that our box has been sliced open. That’s not Boxy’s fault though and has nothing to do with them, moreso the USPS.
Quality: We love the quality of the products that we received. For a few months we felt like Boxy was regurgitating some of the brands they work with but this box has a fresh approach and fun feel to it!
Curation: We felt like this box had a good variety and while there are a couple products that we won’t use this definitely was well worth the price tag!
Box Economy: For the price of this box ($45) we received $322 in products. That’s over six times the cost of the box itself. This is one of the highest valued boxes we’ve ever received and we are absolutely impressed with the June Boxy Luxe!
