Everything that came in my package from Spice Breeze cooking subscription box for July
So what is all this stuff?
Every month Spice Breeze features a new exotic locale. This month it’s Hawa Mahal, or the Palace of the Wind. This sandstone structure exists in Jaipur, India and was erected in 1799. The structures 953 windows allowed for optimum air flow – hence the Palace of the Wind name.
First up in my package is something that Spice Breeze does quite frequently. Included is a seasoning. This is not a spice kit more just an unusual seasoning with a quick recipe (and more recipes on SpiceBreeze.com). This packet includes Cardamom Seeds which can be used to create Mango Lassi and Indian Summer Drink (note how it ties in to this month’s featured location)!
Our first spice kit for the month is a Swedish Dish called Kottbullar (think Ikea meatballs)! Interestingly enough these actually originated in Turkey! Serve them with potatoes, brown sauce as well as cucumber salad with lingonberry jam.
Our packet for this dish includes onions, white pepper, allspice, black pepper, yellow mustard and ginger.
Our second kit is Summer Aloo Gobi Matar and Indian Dish – again tying in that featured locale. Aloo is potato and gobi is cauliflower and matar is peas. This dish is simple to make and is perfect for a busy weeknight!
Our spice packet for this dish is an ayurvedic blend of fennel, cumin, turmeric, coriander and cardamom.
The final kit (and the one that I decided to create for the month) is Greek Souvlaki. It is believed that the Turkish Shish Kebab is how Souvlaki became popularized in Greece but either way meat on a stick is pretty delicious!
This spice packet includes oregano, dill weed, garlic, ground dill seeds, cinnamon, mint, chili and nutmeg.
First up to creating this recipe is cutting my pork into half inch pieces
I then mix it with lemon juice, olive oil, souvlaki spices as well as salt to taste and allow it to marinate in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
Then when I am ready to prepare my dish I grate the cucumber and squeeze out all it’s juice.
You’ll then add greek yogurt, garlic, lemon juice and olive oil
You’ll end up with a dipping sauce that looks like this.
Now I started preparing my actual skewers. You can put whatever vegetables on them you’d like. I opted for bell pepper and mushroom
And these looked super tasty even before they went on the grill!
But I mean … look at them after they keep in from the grill!
We served ours with potato pancakes and it was absolutely delicious!
So in summary
Presentation: Everything was packaged well and arrived to me perfectly in my subscription from Spioce Breeze.
Quality: I love that Spice Breeze uses all organic and non-gmo seasonings and spices!
Curation: This Indian themed package was excellent and I am going to enjoy creating all three dishes!
