Subscription Box Review
My first glimpse inside the Misfits Market Box for this week. This is the first time I’ve ever had this silver liner. Not sure if this is recyclable or biodegradable but Misfits does claim that all their packaging is.
So what is all this stuff?
First up in my box for this week are these Hen of the Woods Mushrooms that I added on to my box. I haven’t tried these yet but was suprised at the feathery look of them. I’m not sure how I’ll use these yet. I’ve been trying to snag these from the Misfits Marketplace for a bit but this was the first time they had them in stock when I logged on!
I also added on to my box this gourmet blend of mushrooms that included, shitake, bella and oyster mushrooms. The Shitake was cut so that they looked like little mustaches which I thought was pretty cute. I used these in a Tom Yum soup that I made.
The first item that was actually supposed to be in the box are these five small mandarin oranges. These are literally like candy – so sweet and delicious. Admittedly, they didn’t last long in our house and are gone now.
Next up in my box are these regular navel oranges. I don’t remember selecting these but … OK. We used these in soy sauce and orange pork that we grilled last night! Very delicious!
There were also these two bags of green beans included in our package. I like that Misfits tends to “double” items in their larger boxes, making it enough for larger families like mine to have enough for a meal sized portion. We cooked these on the grill in foil packets with olive oil and garlic.
I chose Turnip Greens this week. Not sure why, I’ve never had them but I figured this might be a fun way to shake things up. There were two bunches included in my box.
I also chose this bag of small peppers. These are the perfect size to cut up for omelets (which is our preferred weekend breakfast). These are small and only came in orange or red. They say organic on the bag but all the produce from Misfits Market is organic and non gmo.
There were also four small lemons included in my box as well. My kids love lemons and will literally eat them like snacks so .. these are also all gone.
I also selected acorn squash for my box this week. Acorn squash is my absolute favorite squash – so I am definitely pleased to have these to eat in the next week or two. There were two large-ish ones included.
Everytime that pears are available in my box from Misfits Market I select them. My husband loves them so I always get them for him. There were four included in my box for this week.
Next in my box are these two huge bunches of chard. We cooked this up the same way we normally cook our collards. We cooked it with garlic and bacon. It was quite delicious and cooked quicker that collards do too!
I also received a crown of broccoli in my box. I was surprised to see that there was only one, that is a bit strange from Misfits Market but it’s ok. Not sure how I’ll use this yet but I’m sure it will be yummy.
Then there’s a bunch of green onions that were included in my box. We use these a multitude of ways – omelets, salads, sandwiches, you name it!
I also received two sweet potatoes in my box for this week. We cooked these up a couple nights ago in the form of sweet potato fries which were a big hit with the kids.
There were also five russet potatoes included in my package. Five is an odd number from Misfits Market but I’m guessing that one really large potato counts as two. I always select the russet potatoes because you don’t have to peel them and I’m lazy!
The final item in my box for this week are these four granny smith apples. Apples and fruits in general are the one thing in my house there are no holds on in my house, meaning if the kids want some they can have them no questions asked. As you can imagine this makes them a very hot item and thus… they got here and were gone in a flash. I am not sure why they would have been considered ugly because there was literally nothing wrong with them.
So in summary
Presentation: Everything was packaged well and arrived to me in great condition in my box for this week. While I’m aware that this is an “ugly” produce subscription I didn’t find any of the fruits or vegetables in this box to be too ugly for consumption whatsoever.
Quality: The fruits and vegetables that Misfits Market includes are all organic, locally grown and non gmo which is an awesome thing. I love that I don’t even have to wonder about the quality of the produce that’s included in this box.
Curation: Since I am able to select the items that are included in my boxes each week, I’d say that the curation is pretty darn good!
